Studio Bohus is a world-class residential recording studio in Kungälv, just outside Gothenburg, Sweden. Home to producer and mix engineer Oscar Nilsson and renowned mastering engineer Thomas “Plec” Johansson.
Designed in 1977 by Tom Hidley, following the principles of Eastlake Audio, the studio was built for one purpose—uncompromising acoustics.
With a legacy shaped by iconic artists such as ABBA, Status Quo, Europe, and Westlife, and spanning from legends like Scorpions and Accept to modern acts such as The Halo Effect, The Haunted, Soilwork, Architects, and Taylor Swift, we proudly carry our heritage into the future of music production.
Studio Bohus serves as a full production environment for recording, mixing, and mastering, where historic design meets modern precision.

Our Services

Recording
From full-band live sessions to intimate vocal recordings, we capture every performance with clarity, depth, and emotion. Our studios were designed by legendary acoustician Tom Hidley, delivering a world-class recording environment.
At the heart of the studio is a 100 sqm live room with a 6-meter ceiling—perfect for both powerful and detailed recordings. An Italian marble room adds a unique natural resonance, especially for drums, giving your sound a distinct character.

Mixing
A great recording is just the beginning—the mix is where it comes alive. Led by Oscar Nilsson, his approach to mixing is built on clarity, balance, and musical intent. In a focused mixing environment, he shapes each track with precision—bringing out depth, space, and emotion in every detail.
From subtle nuances to powerful dynamics, every element is carefully balanced to create a cohesive sound. The result is mixes that translate effortlessly, staying true to the artist’s vision.

Mastering
At Studio Bohus, Thomas “Plec” Johansson turns great mixes into finished records, ready for release. Working in a pristine monitoring environment with a carefully curated chain of analog and digital equipment, Plec brings experienced, objective ears to the final stage of your production.
Every detail is refined with intention, so your music connects across all playback systems. This isn’t just about loudness or polish — it’s about making your music feel finished, competitive, and built to last.
Studio Bohus is run by Oscar Nilsson and Thomas “Plec” Johansson, who took over the studio in 2023 with a shared vision: to build a space where artists can create freely, without distraction.
Located in Kungälv, just north of Gothenburg, the studio offers a rare balance—total focus when you need it, while keeping one of Sweden’s most vibrant music scenes close at hand.
Originally designed and built in 1977 by Tom Hidley, Studio Bohus stands as one of the few remaining purpose-built recording studios in Sweden. Not a converted space, but a facility created from the ground up for sound. Over the decades, it has been home to both international and domestic hit records across genres, from jazz to metal.
With backgrounds at The Panic Room Studios and Crehate Studios, Plec and Oscar bring decades of combined experience across mastering, production, and mixing. Having worked with artists worldwide—from emerging acts to established names—they have joined forces to take Studio Bohus into its next chapter.
Today, it’s more than just a studio. It’s a place to create, collaborate, and take your music from idea to finished record.
